start in bunker, can't leave

I just started a game in singleplayer in bunker and I can't leave. I keep on going to that room that says there is a thick, secure door that leads outside but I can't do anything with it. How do I leave the bunker?

In the game, the possible exits are listed just after the room description.
With the bunker you need to go up to get into the library, and then can start using commands like hunt and explore from there to get around the city.

Ugh just banging my head on my desk right now. Did not see that up hyperlink next to northeast. Sorry about that.

No problem.

I started off playing the game in glulx so was typing commands instead which is an advantage in some ways, though I made my share of misunderstandings too, in particular I didn't get the difference between scavenge, hunt and explore commands.
