What if the player could participate in quests where he/she fosters more intimate connections between two NPCs?
I started thinking about this after looking at Sandra and Fang. The player can pair Sandra with other bunker residents like Philip, but her content with Fang is deeper and has a ton of variety because she likes him so much. It’d be really cool if each NPC favored one select partner that he/she had a strong personal connection with. They could still be open to the idea of messing around with other characters, but the content with their special partner would be more intimate and expansive. I think this’d provide writers with opportunities to flesh out these characters and create fun and unique scenes and events. We could have scenes with Sandra and Fang playing fetch outside of the bunker (this might involve reluctant cunnilingus, followed by sex), the felinoid and Tehuantl stalking after Icarus (this might involve strategically placed catnip and sex), Carl taking Helen out on a patrol (this would involve patrolling... and sex), etc. These events could feature funny dialogue, sappy moments and sexy shenanigans for the player to enjoy.
Personally, I think the romantic stuff can make the sexual stuff more compelling and rewarding. Pretty much everyone at your home base is sex-starved and mutated, but most of them are still emotional human(ish) beings and it’d be awesome to see some sexy love (if you can call it that) bloom in this apocalyptic world.
These relationships might be purely sexual at the start, and then evolve into something deeper as time progresses and you push the quest forward. You could unlock these special relationship states by completing a unique starting mission. For example, Amy and Sven are still too shy to spend any significant amount of time with each other, so you set them up on a date and protect them as they run through the State Fair and have awkward fun together. It could culminate in Sven winning her a teddy bear (that you had to defeat for him first) and her giving him a sloppy ferris wheel ride blowjob while you sit on a bench with binoculars and jerk off or something… I don’t know. Then, when you get back to the library, they’re love drunk and declare themselves a couple, which opens up new scenes and dialogue.
Maybe two of the more confident girls in the bunker (like an alpha Coleen and a corrupt Alexandra) both start to connect with Artemis after she acquires her male modification. They start to compete with each other for her attention and affection and the player can help sway the cat’s decision. Depending on which you pick, you get a new “relationship starter mission” and different events and such. There are tons of possibilities and you could implement as many or as few as you wanted to.
This game has some fascinating characters in it, and the fact that many of them interact with each other is one of the coolest parts of the game. Giving a few NPCs special relationships with more depth to them would provide fantastic quests and events, add replay value, and make the characters even more likable.
